Log Home / Cabin Construction Guide
SPECIALITY TOOLS :
Here are some specialized tools that you may need to build your log home / cabin:
- Chain Saw - A good quality chain saw such as the Husqvana 350 will be necessary.
- Electric Chain Saw - An electric chain saw works well for square cutting the ends of wall logs.
- Milwaukee Super Hawg Drill - The Milwaukee Super Hawg Drill has high torque which works well when installing OlyLog or LogHog screws.
- Log Wizard - A chain saw attachment that acts as a planer. It can be used for making flat spots, small notches or for giving the log a more hand peeled appearance.
- Air Powered Caulk Gun - Makes easy work of installing 29 oz. tubes of caulk, chink and sub floor adhesive. It requires a small air compressor to operate.
- 8' Level - An 8' level helps to keep taller walls level and plumb.
- Veritas Scriber - This scribing tool is used to transfer shapes from one log to another. This is especially useful when making a custom notch in the field.
- Osborn Brush - As 80 grit buffing brush that works well to clean weathered wood and dirt. It can be attached to a 5/8" angle grinder.
- Lumber Marker - The Lumber Marker is used as a chain saw attachment for making straight cuts in log walls. Common uses are for gable ends, door openings and window openings. It can also be used to cut flat surfaces on logs or to convert logs into lumber.
- Self Feed Bits - These self-feed bits are available in 1 1/2" and 2 9/16" sizes for drilling holes for railing and spindles.
